2008 Indiana National Archery in the Schools Program 2nd Annual State Tournament

2008 Indiana National Archery in the Schools Program 2nd Annual State Tournament

Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of flu stays these archers from casting their tournament arrows for the completion of their opportunity to qualify for the National NASP Tournament that will be held in Louisville, Kentucky on May 10th

It took two days and a lot of additional planning for both tournament officials and schools to complete this year’s Indiana NASP Tournament. The original date of March 7th brought many unexpected twists. With 22 schools and nearly five hundred archers scheduled to shoot this year’s tournament at the Johanning Civic Center in Kokomo. Who would have ever thought that the southern schools would trapped by a snow storm and the northern schools would not be affected by the weather. That is exactly what happened!

Eight schools were able to make the trip to Kokomo and compete in what would be the first leg of a two day tournament. With unexpected bout of the flu the tournament team and the schools did a fantastic job and everyone who made it to Kokomo had a great day.

Since I was the individual who came down with the flu and was confined to my hotel room I need to express my very sincere appreciation to my tournament committee Chris Clark, Dirk Studebaker, Conservation Officer Andy Runyon, Barb Trenary, Ron Hoffman and Captain David Windsor along with the Indiana Field Archery Association and many other dedicated conservation officers and volunteers who never missed a beat. My Dad always told me “Surround yourself with good people and good things will happen.” It was very hard for me not to be there with everyone, but I knew it was in very good hands THANK YOU!!!!

After snow cleared and we put our heads together we scheduled the second leg of the tournament so that the schools that could not make it to Kokomo had their chance to qualify for the National Tournament. A special thanks to Conservation Officer Bill Beville, and the Jennings Co. School Corporation for offering to host the second leg at the Jennings Co. High School. Southern hospitality was over flowing on Saturday April 5th. Fourteen schools and almost three hundred archers completed the 2008 Indiana Tournament. To all the tournament staff, conservation officers and volunteers that included many parents from the Jennings County Schools please accept our deepest appreciation. Of course we could not have had this tournament without our sponsors who help to underwrite the expenses of the tournament, thank you for your contributions!

The complete results of the 2008 Indiana NASP Tournament are available on the web site http://www.indiananasp.com. Every individual and school should be very proud and pleased with their efforts. Fifteen schools have qualified to participate in the National Tournament and these schools must be registered by April 17th.   I will be contacting every school that qualified for the National Tournament with information and registration forms by Wednesday, April 9th. If you have any questions please call me at (812) 482-3093.

The success of the Indiana National Archery in the Schools Program is exceeding everyone’s expectations and everyone involved shares in its accomplishments. Thanks to everyone for bringing this unique program to your schools.

Please join us next year as we move the tournament to the Horizon Convention Center in Muncie. The tournament will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009. Please continue to support and help us
